Reacting to the new developments in prostitution (catchword: poverty prostitution) FIM has extended their long existing social work in the red-light district. Besides counselling in brothels the FIM streetworkers also address women who work as street walkers in Frankfurt. They inform them about support programs in cases of violence, exploitation and coercion and assistance opportunities to get out of prostitution. Important issues in counselling are health related questions and informing about sexually transmitted diseases. Since October 2015, FIM is in charge of coordinating the network and qualification of streetwork regarding poverty prostitution in Hessen.
Another important task of FIM is the counselling of women in prostitution in Marburg. Since 2007 FIM has build a qualified counselling program in close cooperation with other social institutions. The project includes advocacy and public relation work as well as the collaboration in interdisciplinary committees.
FIM street work offers an easy access to information and support programs for women in prostitution who have other wise difficulties in informing themselves. A key factor for this work is the knowledge of different languages. FIM has developed multilingual information material for women in prostitution.
It includes information and advice on the following subjects:
• Violence and exploitation
• Questions related to labour and residency law
• Questions regarding self-employment and taxation
• Health insurance
• Exiting prostitution
